Happy April 4, or as it’s known around here, National Vitamin C Day. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that your body utilizes for the growth and repair of all tissues in your body, including blood vessels, cartilage, muscle and collagen in bones. But that’s not all. Vitamin C is an important part of the body’s healing process, and additionally, it’s an antioxidant that may help with immunity, high blood pressure, fatigue and memory loss.

So it’s important. And it definitely deserves its own day. But here’s the caveat. Our bodies do not produce Vitamin C, so you have to get it from the foods you eat. Sounds easy enough, right? It should be, if you have steady access to foods that include Vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, peppers, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and strawberries. Fortunately, Vitamin C has also been synthesized and readily available as a supplement for the past 90 years. So no matter how you celebrate today, it’s readily available, affordable and in its natural form, delicious. Which reminds me….

This strawberry protein shake recipe is delicious, packed with Vitamin C and when combined with your protein powder of choice, will help kick start your day. (Personally, I’m a big fan of Ka’Chava, the whole body meal. But you do you!)

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup almond milk or water
  • ¼ cup protein powder or Ka’Chava
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • 1 pinch of freshly ground pepper or lemon zest (optional)

Toss in a blender and drink up. The pepper or lemon zest might sound a little weird, but it adds just the right amount of kick to get you moving in the morning. And at 89.4 mg of Vitamin C in 1 cup of strawberries, you’re right in the sweet spot for the daily recommended allowance of Vitamin C (90 mg daily for men, 75 mg daily for women).

But in case you’re looking for an extra boost of Vitamin C, Restore’s IV Drip Therapy and IM Shots can help. Stop into a Restore today and ask about optimizing your Vitamin C through IV Drip or IM Shot.
