June is Men’s Health Month, and Restore Labs Director William Watts assembled a cross-panel of Restore employees to talk about the tough subjects facing men today. Introducing Tabor Pittman (Restore General Counsel) and Joe Van (Marketing Tech). Each has a different athletic background, different lifestyle and different health goals, but all will agree that simply getting comfortable discussing men’s health is a huge step in the right direction.

And these are the topics we discussed:

What is your self care routine? For Tabor, it’s diet, exercise and sleep. He also likes to get into Restore for Whole Body Cryotherapy and Infrared Sauna, but he admits, there’s more he could be doing. For Joe, it’s less about a regimen and more about balance. Sometimes he binges heavily on a weekend, then regulates later in the week. “It’s less about hardcore, goal-focused sprints,” according to Joe.

When was the last time you went to the doctor? For Tabor, it’s been years. For Joe, it was recently to monitor an existing knee injury. But as far as physical examinations go, all three would agree it’s been a very long time since they went in for a general checkup.

And why is it so difficult for men to go in for general check ups? Because it’s tough, from paperwork to insurance to the experience. It’s not convenient, and it could potentially be scary. But talking about these difficulties is a step in the right direction, and Tabor goes one step further, stating the experience could be less diagnostic and more holistic, with the aim of making every part of life better, from mental health to sleep to diet. Additionally, Joe adds that he would rather do physical therapy for knee pain than take a pain reliever, but that his doctor might not see it the same way.
